How to choose your facial cleanser?

It must cleanse while preserving the balance of the skin, i.e. without "attacking" it. The use of overly detergent products alters the hydrolipidic film and promotes skin dryness, which is uncomfortable and detrimental to the health of the skin.

- Prefer a "soap-free" solution (soap dries out the skin): surges cleanser, dermatological bar, liquid sunset.

- Choose one adapted to your skin type: dry, normal, combination, oily.

- If you have any doubts about your skin type, or if the product you are using is not suitable for you, choose a gentle product adapted to dry, most sensitive skin. A too astringent cleanser may indeed cause :

  • redness, irritation, desquamation on dry, mixed, or normal skin;
  • reactive hyper seborrhea on oily skin (the skin reacts to the aggression by producing more sebum).

Different galenic forms are available. The choice of one or the other is primarily a matter of preference:

  • Foaming cleansers: apply to damp face and rinse with fresh water. Many brands available in pharmacies, supermarkets, and perfumeries offer them for different skin types.
  • Micellar waters: they contain tiny particles of surfactant compounds that allow the skin to be cleansed. They are applied directly with a cotton pad and do not need to be rinsed off.

They are suitable for oily, combination, and normal skin, less suitable for dry skin:

  • Cleansing milks: their gentle formulas are particularly suitable for dry and sensitive skin. They are applied with the fingertips by light massage. The excess will be removed with a cotton pad, possibly soaked in tonic lotion.
  • Make-up remover waters: suitable for normal to oily skin and light make-up, they do not need to be rinsed off.
  • Make-up remover oils: effective for removing "waterproof" make-up, they are rinsed off with water and are generally well tolerated by sensitive skin.

Only make-up remover products bearing the indication "face and eyes" can be used for the eye contour and eyelids.
